AEC Militant Mk1 6x6 HAA Gun Tractor Army Reg 36 BM 64 Year of Manufacture-1953 First Issued-1954 Engine-11.3 ltr. 6 cylinder direct-injection diesel Output-144bhp@1800rpm Weight-approx 23 tonnes Drive-6x6 Transmission-5fx1rx2 Electrical system- 24vt Capable of towing up to 40tonnes We have only just purchased this one (23-2-05) Number 30 of only 130 SWB models made(Don`t let SWB fool you, it`s still over 23ft long!) This vehicle was built in 1953 and first issued in 1954 with F.V.R.D.U as a demontration vehicle for Foreign Goverments. It was then issued in 1964 to regular army service, serving with light and heavy artillery units. It was discharged in 1979. Our friend Malcolm Bogaert, its last owner, carried out a full body and mechanical restoration and hopefully we will only have a few cosmetic jobs to return it to as new condition. This Militant is a regular on the Northern and Scottish show circuit, and now, time permiting, we will be taking it to our local shows More pictures and info soon.
